your CRT operates as a write-white device. At 300 DPI (or its
shrunken equivalent) it matters.
Certainly true. My solution has been the following in the my .Xdefaults:
XDvi.pixelsPerInch: 600
XDvi.shrinkFactor: 6
XDvi.DensityPercent: 15
The 15 might not be appropriate for shrunken 300dpi fonts.
600/6 by itself was substantially too light, as Pierre says.
I suppose this should be in the documentation, if there was any :-).
